Getting Started
A short guide to every feature in GratuityPro.
1. Calculate a tip
- Enter the bill amount.
- Choose the tip with the slider (0 to 50% in 0.5% steps), tap a quick tip (10, 15, 18, 20, 22 or 25%), or enter a custom percentage.
- To tip on the amount before tax, turn on pre-tax calculation in Settings and enter the tax amount. The tip is then calculated on the bill minus the tax.
- Calculating is unlimited on the free version.
2. Get a tip suggestion
- Rate the service on one of four levels and pick the type of service (10 types, such as a restaurant or a delivery).
- GratuityPro suggests tip amounts for that situation. Free shows 2 suggestions; Pro shows 4.
3. Split the bill
- Equal split: set the number of people, from 1 to 50. Shares are cent-exact, so they always add up to the total.
- Custom split (Pro): each person enters their own items, and the tip is shared in proportion to what each person ordered.
4. Round the total
- Round the total up, down or to the nearest whole amount.
- When the bill is split, rounding makes each person pay a whole amount.
5. Scan a receipt
- Open the receipt scanner and allow camera access when iOS asks.
- Hold the receipt in view. GratuityPro reads the total and the tax and fills them in for you.
- Text recognition runs on your iPhone. The image is not stored or uploaded.
6. Check the tipping guide
- Open the tipping guide to see tipping customs for 20 countries before you pay abroad.
7. Tip-out calculator (servers and bartenders)
- Enter the total tips you earned.
- Set a percentage for each role you tip out to, or add your own roles.
- GratuityPro shows the amount for each role, the total tip-out and what you keep.
9. History and export
- Save a calculation to keep it in your history. The free version saves up to 5 calculations per day and shows the last 7 days.
- Pro unlocks the full history and export to CSV and PDF.
- You can clear your history at any time from the history screen.
10. Widgets and Siri
- Add a GratuityPro widget to your Home Screen or Lock Screen from the iOS widget gallery.
- Use Siri Shortcuts, for example "Quick tip in GratuityPro" or "Open GratuityPro".
11. Language and currency
- In Settings, choose the app language: English, Spanish, French, German, Russian, Portuguese (Brazil) or Simplified Chinese.
- Choose your currency: USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, JPY, CHF, CNY, MXN or RUB.
12. Upgrade to Pro or restore it
- Pro is a one-time in-app purchase, not a subscription.
- If you reinstall the app or move to a new iPhone, tap Restore purchase on the Pro upgrade screen, signed in with the same Apple Account.
